Luke 11:1 - "One day he was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said, 'Master, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.'”
I think we really amped up this ritual about 8 months ago when we decide to start this new ministry, Generation514. We felt desperate, I should say, we continue to feel desperate. And that desperation has led us to this rhythm, the regular getting away each evening to seek God. Why did we wait so long to make this a nightly tradition? It was probably television shows, football, exhaustion... there are so many good and poor reasons. But these past few months I've never felt more in tune with my wife, my daughter, and with God's calling.
Last night, we finished our time by gathering around our daughter and praying peace over her. Afterwards we got in the car and she said, "Mom and Dad, I love our times of prayer! I love how it brings us closer to each other. We get to hear each others hearts and I feel like we as a family regroup and, I don't know, I just feel so close to God."
That type of daily bread is SO very good! It's like the bread at a restaurant in the DC area called, Mike's American Grill. I swear their pre-dinner rolls are donuts! So stinking good!
But I'm discovering I CANNOT let the busyness of life drown out beautiful awareness of the reality that God is with us. My prayer is that the blessing of God's presence would overwhelm each one of us. That you and your family would everyday take the time to be filled by his Spirit. That the fruit of his Spirit would flow in and out of you and you children. May you be flooded with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control... and after-all, these things really are the evidence of God in our lives. May it become your daily ritual, and may you hunger for it like a really good piece of bread at Mike's American Grill.
