NOBODY LIKE YOU
Whenever we attempt to reach for the stars there will always be others who remind you just how short you are. They will, for whatever reason, try and keep you small. As our new ministry, Generation514 is being built from the foundation up, we are marveling at how God reminds us constantly, continually, emphatically WHO WE ARE. For this I am grateful, because it is really hard to remember sometimes. Regardless of the “success” or “failure” we experience, by stepping out in faith we have tapped into something that we did not fully comprehend: Destiny.
This sense of purpose is, most of the time, so consuming… most of the time. And then there are times when it is not, and I am small and I am full of fear. Then there was the time when a friend, trying to talk us out of pulling up our roots and doing something risky like starting this ministry, said, “There are a million Brocks and Kelseys out there. Why do you think you could even do this? And you shouldn't!” Ouch. No statement could have been made out of more pure fear of our “failure”. That was unsettling, in the beginning. Very unsettling.
Let me tell you dreamers and schemers out there who are doing the grind of daily ministry: you will always have to answer this question: Is today the day I will, at last, try to live out this thing that has a hold of my heart? It is a difficult question to answer, because it requires blood, sweat, tears, and your savings (if you have any). It will ask you to give long hours and sleepless nights. It will require your daughter to give up her senior year in high school, her spiritual mentors, her deep spirited friends. It will ask you to let go of other deep seated desires, at least for now, to make way for this really big dream. Security? Don’t know the meaning of the word anymore. It is replaced with utter dependency.
It’s not for everyone. BUT, there aren’t a million YOUS out there trying to do the impossible, risky, and daring. There is nobody like you. You choose to be radically who you were made to be, knowing that nothing can separate you from the love of God. That is our true destiny, to be secure in the love of God, so that we can do the good work that has been set before us. And for some of us that work is going to require everything, no holding back.
Romans 8: 37-39
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
